The world around us is "going green" and the electrical field tops the list in terms of making our future a greener place!  You may have been hearing a lot of buzz about solar power and solar energy the past several years, but may not really understand what it means.  In this article, I will explain in plain English, what solar energy is and how it impacts our everyday lives.  Continue reading to learn more.

Let's start at the beginning: the sun.  The sun is a wonderful thing.  It provides natural light, and heat and a feeling of overall happiness in our lives.  Another thing that it provides us with: energy.  There are 2 forms of energy derived from the sun's rays; passive and active.  Passive energy is the light and heat given by the sun.  Active energy is energy taken from the sun and converted into a usable direct current.  This is what solar power is: harnessing the sun's energy.

Solar power is created in several different ways.  Several ways you may have seen or heard about are, wind turbines and solar panels.  These are starting to pop up all over the country, and will continue to flourish over the next decade or so.  Solar projects are gaining more momentum with the attractive government incentives being offered, as solar becomes more innovative.

Creating solar power at a residential level has become much more attainable due to the advancement in solar panels.  Solar panels are a great option for harnessing the sun's rays and turning it into sustainable energy, because they can be placed almost anywhere, on any scale.  The other attractive feature to solar panels is that it is relatively maintenance free and pays for itself with it's reduction in energy costs to the average homeowner.

The bottom line is this:  Solar power will be one of, if not the most, important sources of renewable energy in the future.  The electrical field is finding new and innovative ways to advance the use of solar power everyday and we are staying on top of the learning curve to be able to bring this awe inspiring technology to our customers.

If you or anyone you know is interested in a solar project for their home or business, please feel free to give us a call.  Consultations are always free and we are always happy to help!
