Springtime is when remodeling season is in high gear! Kitchen and bathrooms are always the first rooms to date themselves in a home, and are often times, the most extensive areas to renovate as well. Most people wonder why a bathroom would be difficult seeing that it is typically the smallest room in the house. The reasons are plenty! In this article we will cover why bathroom remodeling is such a project and small things you can do that make a big impact on the finished product! Continue reading to learn more...
Bathroom Remodeling 101
Picture this... Your home was built in 1975. The colors of the day were vibrant yellows, burnt oranges and dark wood paneling. Mix in some floral and paisley patterns with a little bright brown tile flooring and - VOILA! You have yourself a 1970's style loo! The only problem is that it is 2012...and you can't stand to look at that bathroom for one more minute, nevermind another decade! You have put off remodeling the bathroom, because why? Because bathroom renovations can be tough.
Bathroom renovations can be a challenge for a number of reasons, but here are the main reasons:
1. You are still living in the house during the renovation, which puts you down 1 bathroom.
2. A lot of contractors have to be in that small space to get it up to par.
3. To have it done right, it can be costly!
When you think of remodeling your bathroom, you automatically think - contractor! Yes that's it. I will call a contractor and he will come in and fix my bathroom. But that is not the case. It is not just a carpenter that will be paying a visit to your home. There will also be a plumber, an electrician, and perhaps a flooring installer and painter too. Then there is the building inspector, the plumbing inspector and wiring inspector too. There are a lot of elements that have to come together in that one tiny room to make it all happen! And one specialty is not any less important than the next. You want to make sure that the contractors you have in your home are all the cream of the crop. That is why finding a bundle package (contractor who has a qualified team of subs) can make this process much more seamless and give you the best results possible.
It's in The Details
When we think of making a room pretty, we often think of the larger elements of a room, ie. paint and flooring. However, the design is really in the details, and lighting can make a huge difference. The proper lighting layout, designed by an experienced electrician can create a serene environment. When you combine that with some sleek fixtures and utlra-quiet exhaust fans, you can transform your simple lavatory to a luxury lounge!
Some simple advice when remodeling your bathroom, to avoid it dating itself a few years is to stay neutral with all things major! When it comes to flooring and appliances (tub surround, toilet, countertop, etc.) stick with classic, neutral colors that will never go out of style. Decorative elements, such as paint, curtains and wall hangings can easily be changed throughout the years, to give it that updated feel, without the need of an entire remodel.
